A large and stately cubist inspired still life by Swedish artist Pär Siegård. Shades of Samuel Peploe and the Scottish colourists but also of Derain, Gaugin and obviously Cezanne. In a fantastic deeply recessed frame. Oil on canvas and dated 1929.

Siegård (1877-1961) attended Helsingborg's Technical School (Hälsingborgs Tekniska Yrkesskola) from 1902 to 1907. In 1908 he attended the Althins Painting School (Althins Målarskola) in Stockholm and the Valand's Painting School (Valands Målarskola) in Gothenburg - where he studied under the Swedish painter and photographer Carl Wilhelmsson. Examples of Siegårds work are held in the collections of the Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) and Nationalmuseum (National Museum) in Stockholm, the Malmö and Gothenburg Museums, Lund University Art Museum, Ystad Art Museum, Nasjonal Museet, Oslo, Turku Art Museum, Finland and the Tallinn City Museum, Estonia and at the V&A in London
