Vintage Architectural Painting by Acke Sjöstrand
A beautifully executed image of a Gothic doorway perfectly capturing the quality of early evening light on the faded stone and plasterwork. The lively, impressionistic brushwork is sensitively bordered with a gorgeous indented wooden frame.
Sjöstrand was born 1875 in Stockholm and died in 1927 in London. Self-taught, but educated while travelling. He travelled extensively in Germany, Holland, Spain and England. Eventually, he settled in London in 1925 where he had great success as a society portrait painter. He held his last exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1926 together with some younger Swedish artists.
