Original Mid Century Painting by Gillis Sahlin
A beautifully executed and moody little still life by Gillis Sahlin signed and dated 1961. Gorgeous muted colours - would look great in any kitchen!
Sahlin was a visual artist and graphic artist born in 1901 in Jönköping and died in 1984. He worked as a sailor until 1924 before he studied art at the Scanian School of Painting in Malmö and at Otte Sköld's School of Painting in Stockholm in 1928 as well as private lessons for Birger Ljungquist and during study trips to Germany, England, Denmark and Finland. He exhibited in Helsingborg, Studio Schrader in Copenhagen and at Konstsalong Avenyen 4 in Gothenburg. He participated in collective exhibitions arranged by Helsingborg's art association at Vikingsberg and Kulla art in Höganäs. As a member of the Skånsk Treklöver artist group 1950–1960, he participated in the group's European exhibitions and in about 30 locations in Sweden. He also studied music for a few years and as a violinist belonged to Yngve Flyckt's chapel in Stockholm.
